Frequently Asked Questions
Does my EHIC card cover me in Norway?
Yes. EU and EEA citizens with a valid European Health Insurance Card (EHIC) are entitled to necessary medical treatment at Norwegian public rates. This covers visits to legevakt (emergency walk-in centres) and public hospitals. It does not cover private clinics like Dr. Dropin — you pay those out of pocket and can claim on your travel insurance.
How much does a Dr. Dropin consultation cost?
As of 2026, a standard consultation at Dr. Dropin costs approximately NOK 595–850 (around €55–80 or USD 55–80). Payment by international credit card is accepted. This is more expensive than using legevakt with an EHIC card, but the wait time is typically much shorter — often 30 minutes or less.

Possibly, but it is not guaranteed. Dr. Dropin doctors can issue Norwegian prescriptions, and many medications are available at apotek (pharmacies). However, Norwegian prescription rules differ from other countries, and not every foreign prescription will be honoured directly. Bring enough medication for your entire trip plus a few extra days. Carry the original packaging and a letter from your home doctor if you rely on regular medication.
Where do I go for an emergency dental problem in Norway?
Most Norwegian cities have a tannlegevakt (emergency dental service) for acute pain, broken teeth or infections. In Bergen, there is a dedicated tannlegevakt for after-hours emergencies. In Stavanger and Tromsø, emergency dental services are available through the local health system. Dr. Dropin does not offer dental care. Search for
