Walk off the quay heading north-west and the Riva opens up along the palace's south wall. The nearest way into Diocletian's Palace is the Bronze Gate straight off the Riva - 520 m / 7 min from the middle of Gat sv. Duje. Free tourist info at TIC Riva, Obala hrvatskog narodnog preporoda 9, open 08:00-21:00, and TIC Peristil on the Peristyle itself.

Euro (EUR); Croatia dropped the kuna in January 2023. ATMs along the Riva and Marmontova. Carry EUR 20-30 in cash: Buffet Fife is listed as cash only and market stalls prefer it.
Croatia is in the EU, so EU roaming applies and your own data is the easiest option. Cafes hand out a WiFi password with a drink, and there is free public WiFi around the Riva and the Peristyle.
Pazar and the Fish Market are morning trade - be there before 12:00. Kruscic bakery shuts at 14:00 and all day Sunday. Villa Spiza and Konoba Fetivi are closed Sunday. Old-town shops run roughly 09:00-21:00 in season.
Paid public toilets on the Riva near the Bronze Gate and at Poljana Grgura Ninskog by the Golden Gate; the OpenStreetMap survey lists the Riva one as 08:00-20:00. Cafes expect you to buy something.
Hot and dry through the cruise season, with the old town's limestone radiating heat into the evening. The walk from the ship along the Riva has no shade at all - the palace lanes and Marjan's pines are the only real relief.
Croatian. English is near-universal in the centre, and German and Italian are widely spoken. 'Dobar dan' (good day) and 'hvala' (thank you) are worth learning.
Do not eat on the Riva or the Peristyle unless you are knowingly paying for the view. Walk five minutes west into Varos or north to Kruziceva and both the prices and the cooking improve.
